Energy Efficient Glazing

In your property the biggest loss of heat can be through the windows and doors, however this heat loss can be reduced when energy efficient A-Rated double glazing is installed. The benefits of new windows and doors don’t just stop at heat saving.

The benefits include:
  • Cost saving (reduced energy bills)
  • Improved energy efficiency
  • Improved thermal insulation
  • Reduced noise pollution
  • Reduced condensation
  • Safety and security
  • A more comfortable living environment
  • Increased home value
  • Lower carbon footprint
The glass

Commonly, the highest-rated glazing according to efficiency is made with Low Emissivity Glass which has a special coating on the inner surface of one pane, enabling light to travel through whilst reflecting heat back into the room.

Between the panes

The gap between the inner and outer pane of glass is filled with Argon Gas, this helps reduce heat loss through the unit. When gas such as argon (which has low conductivity) is used within the space, the window is more efficient at keeping heat inside the property.

Spacer bar

The panes of glass are held apart by spacer bars, using a Thermal Polymer-based Spacer Bar stops the transfer of heat from the outside pane to the inside. This spacer bar also contains a Drying Agent that deals with any moisture that is trapped in the space between the panes

The Type of Frame Material Used

As with the glass, the frame material used in energy-efficient windows and doors are also important. Our multi chambered PVC-U system has many benefits from breaking down heat loss, sound proofing, performance longevity (usually 20 years or more) and is recyclable.

Energy Rating and U-Values

For ease of purchase, Polar Glaze only manufacture A Rated products, The rating system has been developed by the British Rating Council (BFRC) and it takes into consideration the entire window including the glazed areas.

Why not try some other money saving ideas:

  1. Switch off standby
You could save around £35 a year by remembering to turn your appliances off standby mode.
  2. Choose energy efficient appliances
Your kitchen appliances use more energy than you might think, but it’s easy to save money on your energy bills by using them more carefully. Filling the kettle with the amount of water you need – this could save you around £6 a year.
  3. Control your lighting
Switching to energy efficient lights such as LED spotlights could save you money throughout your house. If the average household replaced all their bulbs with LEDs, it could save up to £40 a year.
  4. Reduce your water use
We’ve already mentioned using a washing up bowl instead of running the tap to save water. Replacing your shower head with a water efficient one could save a four-person household as much as £38 a year on gas for water heating
  5. Take control of your heating
More than half of the money spent on the average household’s fuel bills goes towards providing heating and hot water. Turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £60 a year
  6. Get savvy with smart controls
Smart heating controls can help you control your heating and understand how much energy you use. Government estimates that a display or monitor could typically help reduce a household’s electricity use by 2.8% and gas use by 2%.
  7. Draught-proof your home
Unless your home is very new, you’ll probably be losing heat through draughts around your windows and doors, as well as through gaps in the floor or through the chimney. Draught-proofing your chimney when you’re not using it could save around £19 a year.
  8. Upgrade your windows and doors
Replacing your doors and windows with energy efficient ones will reduce your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint.
  9. Install insulation
If your home isn’t well insulated, you could be losing considerable amounts of heat – and money – through your walls.
  10. Financial support for energy saving measures
If you live in England, you may be eligible for the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which obliges energy companies to install energy efficiency measures in the homes of those who need them most.
